I am an employee of the University of Florida who has been working with LuminAID on a Light Up Puerto Rico Initiative, due to their lack of electricity as a result of damage incurred from Hurricane Maria. A recent mission trip opportunity has come my way via a collaborative effort between Praying Pelican Missions out of Minneapolis, MN and Trinity United Methodist Church of Gainesville, Florida. I will be one of a team of 15 volunteers going to San Juan December 2, returning December 8.
The purpose of the trip is to help with removing debris, rebuilding homes, and restoring hope. My heart was pulled toward relief efforts in PR, especially when I heard it may take 6 months for electricity to be restored to the island. Then, I remembered a recent Shark Tank episode featuring LuminAID products. Two items I hope to bring for distribution are the solar-powered, waterproof lanterns (rechargeable up to 500 times) and the solar-powered, waterproof phone chargers (providing over 10,000 lifetime hours of rechargeable battery). With combined efforts of those who can donate and LuminAID, we can bring the light of hope to families and Light Up Puerto Rico together, as well as provide them with a means to contact their families. I will gladly take photos to share so you can see how much joy and help your generous donations will provide to those in need. Thank you for considering donating to this cause.

1.6 billion people around the world lack proper access to electricity. Many of these people are forced to rely upon dangerous, toxic, and expensive kerosene lanterns as their primary source of light. Through our Give Light, Get Light program, we partner with NGOs and non-profits all over the world to distribute LuminAID lights to individuals who will greatly benefit from a safe, rechargeable light source.
